Goals to remember

On October 3rd 1979, Atotxa experienced one of its most magical nights even if the victory the team gained was not enough. Inter Milan were the guests in a First Round tie in the UEFA Cup – a night which has remained in the memory of all of those who were lucky enough to witness it. Emotion, quality football, intensity… Real Sociedad showed all of that and more against the all-powerful Italian giants. With a little more luck and better refereeing, Real Sociedad might well have overturned the 3-0 result from the first leg at San Siro. But even though they didn’t pass through to the next round, it was the team’s first win in European competition and an evening which passed into local folklore.
